We discussed the correct recitation of Surah Faitha and how to memorize last week. The kids are expected to memorize Surah Shams and Ayatal Kursi by the end of this semester.

They have to memorize by following all the steps in the attached chart at least 3 times.

For this week, I would request the following:

* Wednesday : Memorize the verses 1-6 of Surah Shams and record it here
* Friday : Memorizie the verses 7 – 10 and record it here
* Sunday : Record v 1 – 10 here

Next week
* Monday : Memorizie the verses 11 – 15 and record it here
* Wednesday : Record all of Surah Shams

Alhumdolillah we have covered all the rules of Level 2. Insha Allah we will continue to practice more and more words.

RULE:
When Hamzatul Wasl comes at the beginning of a word, it can be recited in three ways:

1. When Hamzatul Wasl ٱ‎ precedes letter ل, it becomes the definite article “Al”. In this case, Hamzatul Wasl is always pronounced with a fatha.

2. If there’s no ل after Hamzatul Wasl and the third letter in the word has a dhammah, Hamzatul Wasl will be pronounced with a dhammah.

3. No ل after Hamzatul Wasl and the third letter has a fatha or a kasrah, then Hamzatul Wasl will be pronounced with a kasrah.

Last week we reviewed all the rules in Surah Fatiha in great detail. I told the kids the homework but didn’t get the time to post it here. So here is the assignment that is due tomorrow:

1. Make the table that we drew in class for Surah Falaq, Surah Nas and Surah Akhlas. This is due tomorrow, Tuesday

2. Please practice and send the recitations for Surah Fatiha, Surah, Nas, Surah Falaq and Surah Akhlas. Make sure to recite the heavy letters properly, rules of Raa and Qalqalah based on the table you have. This is due on Wednesday.

I will send the feedback Wednesday evening.

Today we talked about Surah Yasin: 37-40; signs of God in the heavens. Specifically, we talked about change of night to day (the image the Qur’an uses is the daylight is stripped off, like paint, from the sky, revealing the darkness), the phases of the moon, and how the sun and the moon each follow their own orbits.
Each of these are significant because: 1) when we reflect on them, they show God’s power and wisdom, in how He designs the world in this beautiful and intricate way (we see the moon and the sun move in such beautiful synchrony, almost like ships moving in sync, as they run or sail along their orbits); 2) these are important verses for our own worship, during the day (the daily salat), the month (when the months of Ramadan or Hajj start, for example), and the year (our ages, bulugh, and of course tax time!). These two dimensions are of course connected: we are part of God’s creation, and must constantly align/re-align ourselves with it.

We watched a short documentary that talked about how Muslims had developed the field of astronomy, along with over scientific disciplines like mathematics and navigation over 1000 years ago, and continued to develop it over centuries. This is an important part of our collective heritage as Muslims, and we should be aware of these advances, and pursue the sciences to stand in wonder of God’s signs.

This week we studied:

2. The rules of Raa
3. Practice of Surah al-Fajr

From this week, I would request you to send me your recitations regularly everyday. Please have the child listen to Surah Shams everyday and send me the recitation of

1. v1-9 on Monday
2. v10-15 on Tuesday

Brief overview of what we covered last week. On Thur, we reviewed all the letters, sounds and worked on Surah Al Fatiha.
On Friday, along with the Surah, reviewing the letters and sounds, we learnt about the 7 disjoint letters. We saw how they connect from only one side through stories and tried pointing them out in different words. We also went through Surah Feel and tried recognizing all the letter in this surah.

Salaam, this week we had our first assessment. Masha Allah all the children tried their best and results will be shared in the conference next week. Please appreciate your child(ren) from our side once again for all the hard work and dedication. May Allah Subhan wa Ta’ala continue to bless them with the love of the Quran. 🤲
