2. Small الف on top of blank Tooth

For homework, this week:
1. Review the page for examples and after practicing it, recite these words on this group tomorrow Sunday
2. Please go to https://tanzil.net/#91:1 and listen to Surah Shams and recite along with it at least five times daily
3. Print Surah Shams that I will send and circle all the Alifs on top of an empty tooth. Send me a picture of this tomorrow Sunday
4. Send in the recitations of the five verses after practicing each day: i.e. v1-5 on Monday, 6-10 on Tuesday, 11-15 on Wednesday

There is a reason why I request daily recitations. Please do not send in the recitation of the whole Surah.

Last week we started the class with the salam song and focused on the pronunciation of Bismillah.
We reviewed the letters Alif and Ba, introduced the letter Ta and its forms through a story of Tauba. We did an object in class to show how tauba erases our mistakes.
Kids have being given pages 6,7, 11&12 as homework.

Message of the Quran

Surah Al-Baqarah- Verse 152

فَٱذْكُرُونِىٓ أَذْكُرْكُمْ
“Remember Me; I will remember you.”

We learned that remembrance of Allah makes our heart very strong. There are many ways to remember Allah like reciting the Qur’an and following the Ahl al-Bayt. When our heart is strong, we don’t complain about small things and we are mostly happy.

Short Vowels:
This week, we reviewed the short vowels Fatha, Dhammah, and Kasrah through some riddles and a reveal-the-picture puzzle.

Heavy & Light Pronunciation of Letter ل:
We learned in which conditions Laam in the name of الله and اللهم is pronounced heavy and light.

Surah Recitations:
The kids recited both Surahs beautifully. We discussed where they needed improvement and gave specific feedback on each student’s recitation.

1. An introduction to the makharij of letters.
2. Light letters and its difference with the heavy letters.
3. The heavy letters are: خ ص ض غ ط ق ظ

We also discussed the small dagger alif and how the letter yaa becomes silent when there is a small alif on top of it. I will attach a picture of some examples.

For homework, this week I will request the following:
1. Review the page for examples of small alif and after practicing it, recite these words on this group tomorrow Sunday
2. Please go to https://tanzil.net/#92:1 and listen to Surah Layl and recite along with it at least five times daily
3. Print Surah Layl that I will send and circle all the heavy letters and the dagger alifs. Send me a picture of this tomorrow Sunday
4. Send in the recitations of the five verses after practicing each day: i.e. v1-5 on Monday, 6-10 on Tuesday, 11-15 on Wednesday, 16-21 on Thursday.

Per our talk last Thursday, I am sharing two qaraats from Muhammad Siddiq Minshawi, the reciter we will follow in our classes this year.

The first one is from the chapters Ad-Duhaa and Ash-Sharh. You will listen to this audio and copy and present it to Brother Kazim for the coming two weeks that I will be on vacation. You may record and share it on our WhatsApp channel, too. Please present chapter Ad-Duhaa by August 31 and chapter Ash-Sharh by September 7.

The second one is from chapters Qaf and Ar-Rahman. This audio will be our base qaraat to first practice and copy and then use as a pattern to recite any part of the Holy Quran. In sha Allah we will discuss this qaraat in detail when I am back. Meanwhile, you can listen to the audio as much as you can on a daily basis to completely memorize the melody of the qaraat.

We started our first week of the Quran classes and over the next few months, I would be sending in brief overview of what we discussed and the homework for the week. For the first week, we discussed the following:

1. An introduction to the Makharij of all the letters.
2. Light letters and its difference with the heavy letters.
3. The heavy letters are: خ ص ض غ ط ق ظ

For the message of the Quran, we discussed the story of Iblis and the result of his disobedience with Allah’s command. This is an interactive discussion where the kids are explained in simple terms the Quranic stories and they reflect its messages in their everyday lives and ask questions.

For homework, this week I will request the following:
1. Go to the website tanzil.net and have the kids listen to the last page #604 of the Quran i.e. Surah Falaq, Surah Nas, and Surah Ikhlas, with the recitation of Al-Husary
2. Listen carefully to the correct recitation of these letters by listening to Al-Husary at least five times
3. Send in the recitation of Surah Ikhlas on Monday, Surah Falaq on Tuesday, Surah Nas on Wednesday
4. Print the last page of the Quran attached here and circle all the heavy letters on this page. Send me a picture of this by Wednesday

Message of the Quran

Surah An-Nisa- Verse 74
فَلْيُقَـٰتِلْ فِى سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلَّذِينَ يَشْرُونَ ٱلْحَيَوٰةَ ٱلدُّنْيَا بِٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ ۚ وَمَن يُقَـٰتِلْ فِى سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ فَيُقْتَلْ أَوْ يَغْلِبْ فَسَوْفَ نُؤْتِيهِ أَجْرًا عَظِيمًۭا
“Let those who would sacrifice this life for the Hereafter fight in the cause of Allah. And whoever fights in Allah’s cause—whether they achieve martyrdom or victory—We will honour them with a great reward.”

Day 1:
We started the class by introducing ourselves and sang the salam song. We listened to and recited Surah al Fateha focusing on Bismillah.
To understand why we should learn the Arabic letters, we did an activity where the kids found pictures from the lives of different prophets hidden in the Quran and how there are lessons in it for us to learn.
We worked on the letter Alif, it’s different forms and did an activity called ‘Find the Alif‘

Day 2:
The kids have started getting a hang of the salam song and enjoyed it, followed by Surah al Fateha focusing on Bismillah. We had a short skit through which kids understood the power of Bismillah. Letter Ba was introduced along with it’s forms and we tried to recognize the letter Ba in different words.
Kids took home a scrapbook page of their Arabic names!

We started this semester with reviewing the manners of Quran recitation, Arabic letters, Aoudhubillah, and Bismillah.

The kids also talked about their favorite Surahs.

Message Theme: Imam Hussain(as) Quran & Success:
Our theme for the month of August will be “Imam Hussain(as), Quran & Success.”

We showed some flashbacks from the blessed life of Imam Hussain(as), including his childhood, sacrifices in Karbala, and the last moments before he was martyred. The children shared their heartfelt responses on those images.

We then fast-forwarded to the present time and saw how the world was honoring he who was left alone in the plains of Karbala.

We recorded all the children’s inferences that it was Imam Hussain(as)’s noble virtues and his love for Quran that made him rule the hearts of people as compared to the rulers with material power and wealth. That’s the roadmap for success inshaAllah.

In the end, children also made an edible success ladder craft.

Homework:
Please have the students practice Surah Al Ikhlas and Surah Al Falaq with Sheikh Husary’s recitation. On thursday, we will assess them on these Surahs.
